On-Line Moisture Analysis with SONO-VARIO® Sand Moisture Sensor
Achieve precise moisture measurement for sand and aggregates with SONO VARIO sand moisture sensor. Ideal for concrete and construction applications. SONO-VARIO® Moisture Sensors accurately measure moisture content in sand and fine aggregates like granite rock fines, and gravel up to 5/32 inch diameter (4mm).
Explore the SONO-VARIO Sand Moisture Sensor
As a part of our cutting-edge SONO sensors family, the SONO-VARIO® sand moisture sensor is designed for volumetric moisture measurement in a wide range of applications, making it the ideal choice for industries dealing with minerals, quartz sand, granulate, coal, iron oxide, clayey soils, sewage sludge, fly ash, lime, foundry return sand, pozzolan grains, and clay.
The Technology Behind Our SONO-VARIO® Sand Moisture Sensor
Our SONO® sand moisture sensors harness the power of patented TRIME® TDR technology, penetrating deep into material volumes to provide highly accurate and repeatable moisture measurements. With over two decades of expertise, Seztec’s moisture probes are tailored to meet all your aggregate and fresh concrete measurement needs.
Customizable to Your Needs
SONO® sand moisture sensors are easily configurable for your specific application. Whether you need moisture measurement under a silo flap, inside a mixer, or on a conveyor belt, the SONO® probe can be set to the appropriate operating mode. From single-value measurement to averaging, filtering, and more, you can fine-tune the probe’s functions directly within the sensor itself, thanks to the integrated high-capacity microprocessor.
Seamless Integration to your SCADA or Control System
Our SONO® probes offer a range of interface options to meet your data transfer requirements. Transfer parameters like moisture content, conductivity, and temperature directly into your PLC via two analog outputs (0-20 mA) or import them via an RS485 and IMP-Bus interface. Additionally, SONO®-probes can be connected to a local PC (USB port) via the SM-USB module or the field display – SONO-VIEW, allowing you to adjust individual measuring parameters and conduct calibrations.
Applications Across Industries
SONO-VARIO® Sand Moisture Probes find applications in various industries, including:
- Installation in containers, hoppers, above conveyor belts, or in silos.
- On-line installation, including below a clam-gate and on a weigh-belt.
- Quarries and mines.
- Concrete mixing plants (ready mix and pre-cast).
- Bitumen industry.
Key Benefits
- Easy installation and replacement.
- User-friendly interface for quick commissioning and programming.

› Highly reliable when measuring complex materials like minerals, powders, granules, quartz sand, food and sludge
› Thanks to TRIME technology it is unaffected by steam or changing particle sizes of sand and gravel
› The additionally measured radar-based conductance up to 12dS/m allows conclusions on other parameters of the material recipe
› Simple installation in containers, shafts, silos and conveyor belts
› Probe head made of stainless steel with rectangular ceramic window
› In case of abrasion at probe head an automatic correction of the measuring value happens – without re-calibration
