What is a Magnetic Flow Meter?
An Electromagnetic flow meter, also referred to as magnetic flow meter or mag meter, is suitable for flow measurement of chemicals, water, slurries, and wastewater with high accuracy (better than ±0.5%).
A mag meter features no moving components, thus avoiding pressure drops within the system. They are ideal for monitoring all conductive or water-based liquids such as domestic water, wastewater, effluent discharge, raw sewage, irrigation water, etc. These meters offer cost-effective, reliable, and accurate volumetric flow measurement, and they work bidirectionally.
How Does a Magnetic Flow Meter Work?
A magnetic flow meter, such as our FLOW-38, consists of a flow sensor (comprising a flow tube with electrodes and magnetic coils) and a transmitter (which serves as the evaluation unit or field display). Together, these components measure liquid flow effectively with high accuracy.
Positioned in-line, the flow meter detects an induced voltage as the liquid moves through the flow tube. The transmitter then converts this voltage into a flow measurement value, which it sends to either a local display or a control system. Learn more about magnetic flow meter principle here.
